Panis Angelicus is the text of the famous penultimate stanzas of St. Thomas Aquinas' (1225-1274) Sacris solemniis, a hymn text he composed for the Feast of Corpus Christi, celebrated each year on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday. It is celebrated as an External Solemnity on the Sunday following the official feast day. The Feast of Corpus Christi commemorates Our Lord's institution of the Holy Eucharist before his passion and death on the cross. • The melody presented here is attributed to Fr. Louis Lambillotte (1796-1855). Accompaniment is by Harold Rutila on the Joseph A. Schulte Centennial Organ at St. Joseph Shrine, 1828 Jay St., Detroit, MI. • St. Joseph Shrine is the Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.
