Minimize the side effects by taking pills after a meal, using Urea cream, having regular blood tests, and meeting with your team regularly. • Transcript: • Your doctor just prescribed to you this drug called Regorafenib or Stivarga. And the drug, while it's a pill, can have some fairly significant side effects. So, do be careful. • • So, the first recommended is you take the medicine after a light meal, a low-fat meal. The recommendation is breakfast, but honestly, we often tell our patients to take it after dinner, because there can be some fatigue associated with it. So, either after breakfast or after dinner. • • Most are recommending now starting with two pills a day, and then escalating the dosage if you're tolerating it okay. Watch out for your hands and feet. Your doc or their team may have recommended a urea based cream, and then can help keep some of the calluses down, and some of the tenderness down. Not really a lot of nausea, but you can get some fatigue with this medicine. You don't really lose your hair with this medicine. Occasional rash. And there's some rare liver blood tests that can get abnormal. So, you do want to check your labs on a regular basis. • • In our shop, we follow patients on a weekly basis through that first month of treatment, and then can start to spread out your evaluations after that. • • So, early on, even though it's a pill, you're going to be watched closely for side effects.
