The bony pelvis is composed of four distinct bones: two hip bones, the sacrum, and the coccyx. • The hip bones are the largest, irregular-shaped components of the pelvic skeleton, and they are formed by the fusion of three smaller bones: • Ilium - the largest of the trio; it shapes the upper, wing-like portion; • Ischium - makes the curved anteroinferior and posteroinferior portion; • Pubis - occupies the curved anterior segment. • Each of these hip bone components is composed of several smaller parts. For instance, the ilium consists of a body and a wing, while the ischium comprises both a body and a wing. The pubis, on the other hand, consists of a body and two rami. • Learn human anatomy fast!
