Emmetropia (optically normal eye):- • when the parallel rays of light coming from infinity are focused at the sensitive layer of retina with the accommodation being at rest. • 2. Ametropia (a condition of refractive error):- • is defined as a state of refraction, when the parallel rays of light coming from infinity are focused either in front or behind the sensitive layer of retina, with accommodation at rest. • The ametropia includes: • • Myopia • • Hypermetropia • • Astigmatism • ◾Etiology:- • 1. Axial ametropia:- • abnormal length of the eyeball. • • Increase:- In myopia • • Decrease:- In hypermetropia. • 2. Curvature ametropia:- • abnormal curvature of the refracting surfaces of the cornea or lens. • • Increase:- In myopia • • Decrease:- In hypermetropia • 3. Index ametropia:- • abnormal refractive index of the media. • • Too high:- In myopia • • Too low:- In hypermetropia. • 4.
