Neck POV

Neck mobility is dependent on several things. Here are two big ones: • 1. How much suppleness is in the neck muscles themselves and how well the ribcage expands to support the head. • 2. Expansion of the upper ribcage is a big focus because good ribcage expansion means that air inside of the lungs can act like pneumatic support for the head. • Further, many of the neck muscles have an attachment on the ribcage itself. SO when the ribcage moves well these muscles get the chance to change shape often which really helps the soft tissue mobility. • This inverted positions is fantastic for expanding the upper ribcage AND loosening up the muscles of the neck. • When inverted the upper ribcage fills ups with air first. This helps support the head with air in the lungs and gets those neck muscles to change shape. • Then the added neck motion allows the neck to move assisted by gravity which trains these muscles to change shape while the head is supported by the ribcage. • #physicaltherapist #physicaltherapists #strengthcoach
