This Indian semi-classical song has popular versions by well-known singers J.Yesudas, Sooryagayathri, and film singer Niranjana Ramanan. This contemporary adaptation of the song, with added elements like harmonies and Double track, was conceptualized by Vocalist Madhu Iyer who is accompanied by Poornima Emani (Flute) and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (Mridangam, Kanjira, Konnakol). • • The song starts with a Jathi piece taken from J.Yesudas’ version, then unfolds into an exchange between Konnakol and the Jathi, after which begins the Pallavi, Swagatham Krishna. The charanam of the piece is the highlight where the time signature changes. The arrangement now becomes contemporary even as the lyrics celebrate the famous Kalinga Narthana by Lord Krishna, which is conveyed by the union of all the instruments the Flute, Mridangam, Kanjira as well as the vocals. • The Artists can be reached at • Akshay Anantapadmanabhan • / akshayanantapadmanabhan • / akshaylaya • Madhu Iyer • / madhu.iyer.16 • / madhuiyer1 • Sri Poornima Krishna Emani • / flute.poornima • / flutepoori • To feature in an IndianRaga production, apply to be an IndianRaga Fellow at indianraga.com/fellowship • IndianRaga brings together the best musicians and dancers across 60 international cities to collaborate on high quality music videos viewed by millions of people globally.
