n this video our lecturer Dr.Maram Salama • A 4th-year medical student at Alexandria Faculty of Medicine • is discussing A very interesting topic in the Neurology curriculum which is • Myopathy • • قبل ما تبدأ الفيديو شوف الكلام دا: • ⁃ إيه هدفنا من الفيديو؟ • هتاخد فكرة عامة عن ال • Myopathies، تقدر تتفرج عليه لو لسة مبدأتش المحاضرة وعايز تاخد عنها فكرة أو لو خلصت مذاكر وعايز تراجع مراجعة سريعة أو لو في ليلة الامتحان ومفيش وقت للمذاكرة وعايز تعرف المهم في الموضوع :) • • ⁃ الاختصارات اللي هتقابلك: • Serum CPK: Serum creatine phosphokinase. • EMG: Electromyography. • MD: Muscular dystrophy. • • تقدر دلوقتي تشوف الفيديو إن شاء الله، وترجع تقرأ بعض التوضيحات والأسئلة اللي جات قبل كدا في الموضوع.. • ⁃ Important notes: • 1- Examples of metabolic causes of myopathies: Thyroid and Parathyroid dysfunction. • 2- Examples of inflammatory causes of myopathies: Polymyositis, and dermatomyositis. • 3- Example of drug-induced myopathies: statin. • 4- Regeneration of myofibrils is way weaker than degeneration that’s why fibrosis happens. • 5- Myotonia: Normal contraction of the muscle, but weak and slow relaxation. • 6- In limb-girdle: Muscular dystrophy is predominately in muscles of the upper and lower limbs, while in Facio-scapulo-humeral: Muscular dystrophy is predominately in muscles of the face and muscles around the scapula. • 7- In Becker’s muscular dystrophy, the defect is in the same gene and same location (Xp21). • • ⁃ بعض الأسئلة اللي جات في امتحانات السنوات اللي فاتت: • 1- Waddling gait is commonly seen in patients with? Myopathy. • 2- A 15 year old boy with gradual progressive weakness of upper and lower limbs, intact sensation, no sphincteric complaint. On examination he has proximal weakness and atrophy of muscles of upper and lower limbs. Deep tendon reflexes are diminished. What is the most diagnostic investigation? Electromyogram and nerve conduction. • 3- Proximal weakness is found in? Muscle diseases. • 4- Regarding Duchenne muscular dystrophy?
