This is the first video in a 7-part series discussing my construction of my N-Scale Scenic Ridge layout (from Woodland Scenics using their Subterrain system). The series is aimed at a beginner model railroader, but there are a lot of hints for those with more expeience. • In the first half of this video, I introduce the layout and give a quick tour of its design, discuss the track diagram, and list tools and techniques for building the base using lightweight, but strong, foam pieces. In the second half, I show the actual construction of the foam layout support base (in 4X fast time). Finally, I include shots of trains running over the layout (after track is added in the secod video). At the end of the video, I have included is a train led by my newly acquired Bachmann GP-38-2 locomotive with DCC and Econami Sound Traxx. • The outline of this video series is as follows: • 1. Introduction to Layout and Base Construction (this video) • 2. Track Laying and Wiring • 3. Switches (turnouts) and Switch (turnout) Motors • 4. Outer Walls, Bridges and Tunnels • 5. Terrain Supports and Plaster Cloth • 6. Roads and Buildings • 7. Final Scenery: Ballast, Ground Cover, Trees, River, Rocks • May be changed as I go along! • Chapters in this video are • 0:00 Introduction • 1:23 Changes and Improvements • 2:54 Series Summary • 3:25 Track Diagram • 3:44 Additional Changes and Improvements • 4:01 Running Train • 4:34 Tools and Adhesives for Foam • 8:40 Fabrication of Base • 17:30 Bachmann GP-38-2 locomotive with DCC and Econami Sound Traxx.
