Coucou, here’s my take on the Galette des Rois or King Cake that is traditionally eaten on January 6 in France for the Celebration of Epiphany when the Three Wise Men visited baby Jesus in Bethlehem. • It’s basically a delicious puff pastry pie filled with almond cream (crème d’amande) or frangipane cream. I didn’t have almond extract so I used vanilla essence instead. • You’ll see the Galette everywhere in France in late December through January. The closest parallel I can think of is turkey for Thanksgiving in the U.S. It’s so prevalent that there are kids’ books written about it. I even saw one about Peppa Pig and the Galette des Rois in Paris. I wonder how the Brits feel about that 😅🐷🇫🇷 • Traditionally, the French put a little ceramic figurine or fève in the galette and whoever finds it gets to be king or queen for the day and wear a crown. Bakeries nowadays are making fancier fèves like ceramic macarons or bracelet charms and going for more exotic flavours like rose and pistachio or black tea. Call me a traditionalist but I prefer the classic almond frangipane cream flavour most of all. • #galettedesrois #galette #jaimelafrance #paris #frenchie #foodie #almond #puffpastry #fève
