The adaptation may be physiologic (normal) or pathologic (abnormal). • Types of cell adaptation: • Atrophy: Decrease in cell size that leads to shrinkage of an organ • Hypertrophy: Increase in cell size that leads to enlargement of an organ • Hyperplasia: Increase in number of cells that leads to enlargement of an organ • Metaplasia: change in the cell type • Dysplasia: Disordered development of cell • B.
