Ronald “Winky” Wright, one of the most skillful defensive fighters of all time takes on power punching Puerto Rican legend Felix “Tito” Trinidad in a WBC Middleweight Title Eliminator. • Prefight records; Wright 48(25)-3, Trinidad 42(35)-1. • Trinidad was world champion in 3 weight divisions; Welterweight, Super Welterweight Middleweight and going into the fight he had beaten a long list of top oppositions such as David Reid, Hacine Cherifi, William Joppy, Hugo Pineda, Fernando Vargas, Troy Waters, Rodney Moore, Larry Barnes, Oba Carr, Freddie Pendleton, Kevin Lueshing, Ricardo Mayorga, Oscar De La Hoya, Luis Garcia, Luis Ramon Campas, Maurice Blocker, Hector Camacho Pernell Whitaker. • On the other hand, Wright had notable wins over Keith Mullings, Juan Carlos Candelo, Shane Mosley (2x) Bronco McKart (3x). • From the opening bell, it was a boxing clinic for Trinidad as Wright masterfully outjabbed and outworked Tito who was unable to land significantly in 36 minutes. Wright’s masterful defense was in full display on this night; efficiently halting Trinidad’s offense while landing and countering with punches in bunches. • This is one of the best (if not the best) performances of the underrated defensive master who arguably won just about every round although 2 of the judges gave Tito 1 round each, possibly out of courtesy. • By CompuBox stats, it is a total blowout; Wright landed 35 more power punches, 185 more jabs and 262 more total punches.
