Why is my bird sick? Why is my cockatiel vomiting? Caring for a cockatiel is important. On an october morning, by staying in the garden early, my cinnamon cockatiel got cold. She threw up and ate, repeatedly. I had to take her inside and didn't give seeds for a few hours. She became well then. • In this video, my cockatiel recovered quickly. But months ago, the vomiting did not end the next day. In time, she became sleepy too. Diagnosed with Megabacteria. Antibiotic treatment was given. Vomiting is dangerous and there may be a lot of reasons. It's a must to find an avian veterinarian. • If anyone is looking for an avian vet in their area, please look on aav.org (Association of Avian Veterinarians). They have vets listed around the world. • There are a lot of reasons for vomiting. The most common one is temperature changes and wind. Is your bird a cockatiel too? Does he have a dierrhea? If so, boiled potato or rice is given. Grit mix and the charcoal within is also important for digestion. Changing water a few times a day without putting any ingredients like vitamin drops is important during vomiting. If he is at the bottom of the cage, seeds, potato, grit mix and water must be reachable. Cover with a blanket at night. Be sure air gets in. Don't get him out of the cage to fly during disease. • As a general rule preventing diseases is more important than curing. You should buy probiotic and prebiotic supplements for bird health. Prefer grit mixes with charcoal in it. It's said to help digestion and remove toxins. A few drops of homemade vinegar put in clean drinking water is also a common practice for their health. Do not mix vinegar with vitamin drops, drugs etc. Cage with a metal grate over the droppings tray will keep the bird away from droppings and thus diseases. Water bowl and cage must be cleaned often. Put clean, fresh, filtered, chlorine-free water daily. Cuttlebone and mineral block are a must too. Don't forget to find an avian veterinarian and always be in touch. • Are you a cockatiel first time owner? Here is my funny, naughty, cute and lovely cockatiel.
