A few people would step up to claim the map as their own, but most turned out to be frauds. • Join me as we uncover the rightful author of fy_iceworld through Robert Yang's digital forensics investigation on Rock Paper Shotgun about the map and its story. • As years pass by the history of Counter-Strike's humble beginnings weren't necessarily developer driven. What may surprise you is that part of Counter-Strike's initial success was due to the mountainous content that was upload by hundreds of users upon its release and thousands during its prime. The content generation for this game persists til' this day. • As time moves forward the stories of these content creators from the early years of Counter-Strike are becoming more and more shrouded in mystery. We may never know the authors of many custom levels and game modes that went on to influence the modern gaming industry stemming from this game. These content creators single handedly extended the life span of Counter-Strike and inspired numerous developers to create games inspired by the various customized game content that came from early Counter-Strike. • These stories matter in a historical sense as they are the very DNA for games we know and love today. All of these users should be recognized and coveted for their creations. • Next time you play a AAA title, I hope you experience elements of these user generated pieces from the old days of Gold Source Valve games.
