I borrowed a pair of Digilegs by Area 51 for a test run! • My friend RoothDragon purchased a pair of digitigrade stilts awhile back and I got the opportunity to try them out myself. I have had prior experience with a homemade pair of digi stilts built by Wizard Gir- in which the design was inspired by Kim Graham and Weta Workshop's earlier prototypes. You can see these stilts in a previous video of mine. It was an interesting experience getting to compare the two models and I was very pleased with the Digileg's performance. • This video is a compilation of clips from a 25 minute session with the legs- I was able to easily stand without requiring a break or even feeling tired the entire time and felt that I could have gone on much longer- maybe even an hour even with my first go at them... a huge difference considering my homemade pair was something I could only last 5 minutes in before needing to stop. They are super comfy but heavier than my homemade pair, Digilegs are 11lbs each (Gir's homemade stilts were 7.5 lbs each) for those curious. The hardest challenge is standing still due to the curved shape of their bottoms, this was something that I did prefer about Gir's flat-bottom stilts with the tapered edges. • • I wanted to demonstrate a few different movements with the stilts that have not been previously shown before. I can jump about a half foot off the ground at best, am able to stand up and lower myself down, can pseudo-run, and do some fail martial arts :) Needless to say, I had an absolute blast and would have never taken them off if Rooth let me. • • Filming started about 5 minutes after I put the stilts on for the first time (after an adjustment or two to ensure I could walk outside) and I began with the aid of a staff to best understand the behavior of the stilts. After about 12 minutes I stopped carrying the staff and went from there. I will be uploading the full 20 minute session to YouTube next, soon as editing is finished so you can hear my full review an commentary on the performance including lots of stilt and actor tips. This is just something quick to show them off for now. • • Thanks ever so much to RoothDragon for the invite to try out his stilts and for filming the whole experience! Feel free to ask if you have any questions. • • These stilts will serve as an inspiration for how to remake my homemade pair in regards to performance and safety as it was certainly an eye-opener! I hope to one day own a pair of Digilegs as well. I am using the digitigrade stilts for a raptor dinosaur costume set to be built later this year and progress updates will be posted online as the project reaches milestones. • • • Music, Rising Provided by Kevin MacLeod • Royalty free music from incompetech.com • Digileg Stilts from Area 51 • http://www.digilegs.com • Camera/Stilts Owner- RoothDragon • Performer/Editing/Video © CanineHybrid Creations 2013 • • Follow my costume projects on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/caninehy...
