Obturation Techniques in Endodontics

In this video, we will explore a widely used Obturation Technique in Endodontics which is the vertical compaction technique. let's understand it with the help an animation. • The vertical compaction technique involves five stages. Let's go through each step: • 1. Choosing the Master Cone: - Pick a gutta-percha cone that matches the size of the master apical file. - Make sure the cone fits snugly at the working length. You should get a tug back that is slight resistance on its removal. - Use an X-ray to check the cone's position and trim the tip if needed. • 2. Selecting Pluggers: - Use different-sized pluggers for vertical compaction. - Use rigid stainless steel pluggers for larger canals and flexible nickel titanium ones for smaller canals. - The pluggers should fit the canal without getting stuck. • 3. Placing Sealer and Master Cone: - Apply a thin layer of sealer to the canal walls using the master cone. - Gently place the master cone into the canal, making sure it fits properly. • 4. Packing Down: Many obturation systems are available in the market. For example, Dentsply Calamus Dual Obturation System Kit which has two handpieces. One is the heat carrier and the other is the gutta percha delivering handpiece. - Heat the carrier and use it to warm and seal the gutta-percha in the canal. - Pack the gutta-percha in the middle and bottom parts of the canal using the pluggers. • 5.
