In this HOW TO video I'm installing new timing chain, balance chain, guides, and camshaft sprockets (VVT Phasers) in a 2012 Equinox with 2.4L Ecotec engine. The GM Ecotec motor is commonly found on certain year #chevrolet Captiva, Equinox, and Orlando SUV's. On some Model HHR, Cobalt, Malibu, and Impala cars. On some model year GMC Terrains. It is also found on certain models of Buick Verano, Allure, Lacrosse, Regal. This should be the same procedure for the 2.0L, 2.2L, and 2.4L Ecotec engines. The motor has dual overhead camshafts and VVT (variable valve timing). The camshafts are advanced and retarded by the oil operated cam phasers that are controlled by solenoid operated actuator valves on top of the head. There is also a balance shaft chain behind the timing chain that needs to be serviced or replaced. The Common problem with the Ecotec engines is the timing chain stretching and guides becoming damaged or broken. If not fixed or #repair can cause major engine damage or jumped timing. The VVT phasers are also known to make loud noise on start up for the first few seconds. These problems can cause the vehicle to stall, run rough, hesitate, and hard start. Possible OBD II codes when this happens will be P0341 P0340 camshaft range or performance problems. This could be a bad sensor, or in this case here a bad timing chain. P0011 P0014 Over-advance or P0012 P0015 Over-retarded camshaft A or B. Usually caused by clogged filter screens on the camshaft actuators. P0010 P0013 A or B Camshaft position actuator circuit/open usually means the actuators are not working or wiring problems. Its best to check any used vehicle with a OBD II scanner to check for any possible problems or issues. • • Timing Chain Set: Cloyes 9-4201SAVVT1 • Balance Chain Set: Cloyes 9-4202SA • Access Plug/Guide Combo: Melling 5499GMB or Dorman 917-954 • Ecotec High Pressure Fuel Pump Camshaft Sensor Install:    • Chevrolet Equinox High Pressure Fuel ...   • 00:00 Problem Troubleshooting • 00:51 TDC Timing Marks Line Up • 01:22 Balance Chain Installation • 03:09 Timing Chain VVT Phaser Install • 05:41 Guide Access Plug • 06:00 Cam Phaser Bolt Tightening Tip • 06:53 Final Timing Mark Check • 07:41 Engaging Timing Chain Tensioner Location • 08:11 How To Check For Valve Interference • 08:30 Cam Actuator Solenoid Check • #mechanic #garage #autorepair
