Hidilyn Diaz wins the gold medal in the women's 55kg weightlifting tourney in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In an intense finale, Diaz had to summon all her strength to beat favorite Liao Qiuyun of China. Diaz bested Liao Qiuyun’s overall performance by just 1kg, scoring a 127kg Olympic record to secure the gold. • Diaz’ total lift of 224kg also set an Olympic record, beating a formidable field that included China’s world record holder Liao Quiyun. • Liao Qiuyun of China became the first Chinese lifter to not win a gold medal in this years’ Olympics. • This is the fourth Olympics of Diaz, and her best finish.
