Her movies, photographs, and art installations focus on documentary realism, feminist issues, and social commentary — with a distinct experimental style. • • Varda was born in Brussels, Belgium, to a Greek father and French mother. Her father's family were Greek refugees from Asia Minor. For her first film La Pointe courte (editing by Alain Resnais), she drew her inspiration from the region of Sète, where she grew up.
