In this video I show you a few simple tricks for vacuuming a fluffy shag pile rug with the other tools that come with your vacuum cleaner. • The trick to knowing how to vacuum a shaggy rug is understanding how vacuum tools work. if you use a standard carpet cleaning attachment on your vacuum cleaner, the fluffy shag pile will block the airflow in a standard vacuum head and the dirt won't move. • When vacuuming shaggy rugs the fibres are so long that you can't use the same technique to vacuum a shag rug as you do with carpet or hard floors. The long fluffy rug pile makes it impossible for the beater bar of an upright vacuum to groom the shaggy pile of the rug because it cannot open the rug pile to allow the suction of the vacuum cleaner to pull the dirt out. • The best way is use an open tool like a curtain cleaning attachment to vacuum the shaggy pile and allow the fibres to 'shake' inside the head of the vacuum tool allowing the movement and airflow to pull the dirt out of the base of the rug.
