Blake’s 7 launched on BBC1 on 2nd January 1978, where its first series ran for thirteen episodes. Following a crew of outlaws fighting a tyrannical Federation, it was seen as the UK’s response (or antidote) to Star Trek. • Blake’s 7 rode a new wave of sci-fi popularity, with its first episode broadcast a few days after the original Star Wars movie hit UK cinemas.
