Spontaneous video of a few of the plants growing on my Cedar tree here in Southern California. Here's a list... • 1. Rhynchovola Jimminey Cricket (Brassavola nodosa x Rhyncholaelia digbyana). I think this might be the 3rd or 4th time that it's bloomed this year. The flowers are relatively large but they aren't very long-lasting. I pollinated this flower with some pollen from a reed-stem Epidendrum. I also did the reverse pollination. Did you know that reed-stem Epi seeds don't require flasking? • 2. Dendrobium bigibbum is a great species from Australia. Initially I was under the impression that these types can't grow outside here. Fortunately I was quite mistaken! Well, at least for my area. They do appreciate quite a bit of heat. The closer you are to the coast the more full sun they'll need. • 3. Echeveria gibbifloras that grew from seeds that I sowed directly on the tree. Most of the seedlings were victims of their own success but there are a few exceptions. • 4. Peperomia hoffmannii? Good little grower but I wish it climbed. Out of all the plants on my tree only a few are real climbers. Probably the best is Microgramma vacciniifolia. • 5. Elgaria multicarinata is not a plant... it's a lizard. It's commonly referred to as the Alligator lizard. They eat slugs and snails so they have become quite abundant in the garden ever since I stopped using snail bait. It's not uncommon to find these lizards hanging out a few feet up on a plant... but this is the highest that I've ever found one. Needless to say the slugs crawl at least this high on the tree. But how did the lizard know that the slugs climb so high on the tree? Did the lizard read the snail trails? • During summer I water the tree 2x/week at night. As the temps get cooler I water less frequently and earlier in the day. • Please let me know if you have any questions! • Here are some useful links... •   / epiphytesociety   •   / epiphytessc   •   / orchidssc   • https://www.flickr.com/groups/orchidl... • https://www.flickr.com/photos/epiphyt... • http://epiecon.blogspot.com/
