How to describe a show like Taskmaster? Springing from the inventive mind of Alex Horne, Taskmaster is part panel show, part game show and part sitcom. It sees a group of five comedians and celebrity personalities take on a series of increasingly absurd and dignity-compromising tasks, often against a timer and always competing for precious points from the most arbitrary of judges, the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies. • It’s one of the most delightful, entertaining and straight-up funniest shows to grace British television screens in recent years and unique in its ability to peel away the layers of performance of its contestants. Getting a bunch of celebrities to complete silly tasks can provide enough comedy on its own, but Taskmaster is set up to bring out more from that seemingly simple premise. • It’s one thing to watch someone failing at an outlandish challenge, but then put them in front of a studio audience and their fellow competitors, ask them to justify their actions before a tyrannical judge in charge of their fate, and you get something far more entertaining.
