Mid of Taylor arriving on red carpet for event at which she was honoured with the British Film Industry Lifetime Achievement Award • STORYLINE • A selection of the late actress Elizabeth Taylor's jewellery has gone on display in Hong Kong. • It's a preview of the full collection which will go under the hammer next month in New York. • Auction house Christie's has got 269 lots of the late star's jewellery to sell, and estimates its overall value for the stones alone at between thirty and fifty (m) million US dollars. • It might all fetch more because of its association with the star, auctioneers say. • One of the most expensive items is a necklace called La Peregrina, made of rubies, diamonds, and a giant natural pearl, shaped like a pear. • The pearl was first discovered in 1579 in the Gulf of Panama, and was owned by Spanish royalty, among others, before Taylor's former husband Richard Burton bought it as part of the necklace for her. • Burton spent 37-thousand US dollars in 1967 on this present.
