BORTLE 1 SKIES!!! Need I say more? • Around 20 members from the Northern Sydney Astronomical Society (NSAS) took the nearly 6 hour drive out to Australia’s first Dark Sky Reserve and the home of Siding Springs and the Anglo Australian Telescope just outside Coonabarabran, NSW. These are truly some of the darkest skies in the world. To go during a new moon phase during the peak of Milky Way core season is a sight to behold and well worth the trip, from anywhere in the world! • On the trip I shot: • The Southern Cross and Coal Sack nebula region • The Veil Nebula which is very tricky to shoot from mid-Southern latitudes only rising above the horizon for a few hours each night • A 180 degree panorama of the entire viewable Milky Way band at this time of year • The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex at both 50mm and 200mm • If you’re not already following me on Instagram and Facebook, why not?
