Taisho-ike Pond was produced by a mudflow caused by the 1915 eruption of Mt. Yake-dake which blocked the Azusa-gawa River. The reflection of the Hotaka Mountain Range, along with the withered trees standing in the pond has made Taisho-ike Pond an iconic image of Kamikochi. Since the early Showa era this pond has been used as a reservoir for hydro-electric power generation. • Gradually being filled by sediment flows from the slopes of Mt. Yake-dake upstream on the Azusa-gawa River, the pond's size has been dramatically reduced, and some of the withered trees in the pond have fallen, leaving only a few remaining. • #kamikochi • #greentrail • #taisho Pond • #japan • #nagano
