Traditionally, Dolgans lived in tipi-like tents covered with reindeer skins. Nowadays, however, they are protected from the biting cold by the walls of their balok, a small, single-room cabin in which a stove is lit all day long. These timber skeletons covered tightly with skins are each built on their own set of skis, allowing the herders to migrate easily with their homes. • . • Ever snoozed in extraordinary settings?
