How to hollow out your ceramic sculptures and why

Sculpting is fun, but sometimes you have to do something weird. Hollowing out can be strange, you put all this work into your sculpture then you cut little holes and scoop the insides. Remember this sculpture and most ceramics i have done do not use a armature, its just clay acting as an armature. So when you fire the water clay the water disappears and the clay shrinks, if the inside is solid most likely it will break, fracture, or create cracks. So you remove the inside to help prevent this. • With grog clay it also helps the process of firing. • Do this midway in your sculpture, and do not add too many details. The clay sculpture afterwards will also dry faster so you have to wet it a bit more. Keep a plastic bag over it and wet it generously while you are working. • Hope this helps • Some of my sculpts on Etsy • https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheSculptur... • Support some of these artists on youtube • Peru Pelo EL mundo learning to draw •    / @peruparaelmundo7708   • In the round •    / @intheround8310   • Jon Burns Fine Art •    / @jonburnsfineart   • Joanna Modzzen •    / joannnamozdzen   • David Lemon •    / clayguy1   • Eirik Arnesen Art •    / eirikarnesenart   • Etsy shop • https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheSculptur... • Instagram: •   / sculptsum   • Facebook: •   / ricardopontesart
