We are breaking down Hardwood Lumber Grading with our Red Oak floors as an example. A lot of our customers want hardwood grades explained You will see a first quality red oak natural floor, next to a cabin grade red oak natural floor, our chateau oak red oak natural floor, and our red oak red label flooring. • We mixed all these different grades of red oak into one big red oak floor section. Can you tell there are 4 different grades of red oak in there? We would love to do a blind test with installers or random consumers if they could guess how many grades are in this 10'x10' section. • Which red oak grade caught your eye? Do you like to see a variation of colors in your hardwood? Do you prefer the consistent look of the first quality? Is the cabin grade or chateau oak bring the perfect middle ground when it comes to variation? • Please let us know below! • How lumber is graded in a hardwood context is based on two main factors. Visual qualities and manufacturing defects. • Typically these grades or categories of flooring are named 1st quality or 2nd quality. We don't believe quality is the right word to describe these graded floors. • When you see all four grades of red oak mixed together, you don't think, there are bad quality boards in this floor . You'd probably think there's some different types of red oak boards in this floor . • The different types of floors are for different looks. Don't think a quality rating for your floor is an automatic measurement of how much you'll enjoy the floor! • We hope this video helps clear up any confusion about different lumber grades in hardwood floors.
