We’ll start off with an easy one in my opinion, and that will be Thanos, now I’ll be talking about the marvel cinematic universe Thanos because the comic book versions backstory is less admirable. For those of you unaware in the comic books in the infinity gauntlet storyline the reason why he wants to kill half the universe is to impress mistress death who he is in love with, which I mean, personally, killing half the universe for some cheeks is a bit overkill but that’s just me, in the marvel cinematic universe it comes more from a place of reason. In that storyline he as a child grew up on titan that at one point faced civilisational collapse due to overpopulation, Thanos suggested killing half the population at random to ensure that the species would live on but they got mad at him for suggesting something so outrageous and exiled him, not too long after though Thanos was right and the entire population died off due to lack of resources and now the planet is a barren , Thanos realising he was actually right then sets off to make sure this doesn’t happen again and then finds the infinity stones that are capable of making the whole process easy and done with a snap of the fingers. Now some people argue that he’s stupid because if the gauntlet gave him godlike power, then why didn’t he just make the universe twice as big with double the resources to accommodate the increasing populations. That one is easily refuted because if you just keep increasing the resources every time the populations get too high then you are just stuck in a cycle of needing to exponentially increase resources, if you kill half of the population of all planets however, you still get double the resources however this time, the people on the planets also know that if they let their populations go unchecked again and increase too much they will just be smited down and it will introduce a level of self-regulation that you otherwise wouldn’t get if you just kept rewarding the ceaseless expanse. Another argument against Thanoss’ plan that statistics nerds like to use is that, killing half the population of every planet is a guaranteed evil whereas the overpopulation may not cause extinction so because it’s not a guaranteed situation then the evil of that overpopulation extinction should be discounted as it may not happen. Yea and to those people we say stats aren’t real you nerd, a number on a page? Yea how about you calculate the probability of me beating the out of you? But to answer that seriously, Thanos literally had the time stone, he probably used it to see if the snap was necessary and likely concluded that it was, so in this scenario the value we assign to the overpopulation extinction event is much higher as it a guaranteed outcome. And killing half the population is much less evil than not acting and allowing all of the population to die, its kind of like the trolley problem except, thanos is very willing to pull the lever. Also I think Thanos should have won because he just had so much swag, like he literally came to do a job, finished that job and then went to play farming simulator, he even destroyed the stones because he realised that they served no purpose other than temptation after he did what he had to do, no lust for power, he just had a specific purpose and carried it out to the best of his ability. Whats even funnier is that Thanos literally won in 14 million other universes, the avengers only won once in one timeline and that’s the one they decide make a movie about. Not to mention that in that one universe the only reason they won is because of some bs that the writers pulled out of their ass, okay yea sure the mobius strip, it would have been more believable if it was the Morbius strip and the brought-out Morbius and he said its morbin time and they just won. Anyway, that is why Thanos most definitely is a villain who was right. Up next, we have cyclops from the odyssey by homer, he is actually called polyphemus but I’ll just refer to him as the cyclops. If you aren’t familiar with the story I’ll give you a quick rundown, Odysseus and his men become shipwrecked and land on the island of cyclopes, they then hear the sound of goats and head inside a cave where they find a huge stash of cheeses and sheep and decided to help themselves to as much of it as they can as well as plan on what they were going to steal after they leave.
