YOU KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS!!! Welcome to another episode of #NewToolTuesday. Brakes are one of the most common areas of the car that mechanics work on. It is a relatively simple process and if you have the proper tools and a bit of time, you can save yourself HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of dollars by doing it yourself. It does require a bit of common sense, however is one of the most efficient way to save yourself some money. • I was quoted over $1400 to get the brake pads and rotors replaced on my Audi by the dealership. If I had no tools to my name at that point, I still could have come out ahead. You can purchase a socket set, a jack, jack stands, new pads and rotors, this brake press, AND STILL BE UNDER $1400. If you already have some of these tools, you will come out ahead of the game!! • This brake caliper press can be used for BOTH the front and rear calipers. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid is forced on the backside of each of your brake’s pistons and clamps your brakes together. Overtime, your pads and rotors will wear down which means the piston has to be pushed out more and more to come in contact with the pads. To service your brakes, the piston needs to be retracted and without this tool, getting the rear pistons back into place can be a difficult task.
