In September 1666, the Great Fire of London ravaged the City of London, burning from the 2nd to the 6th and originating from a bakery on Pudding Lane. Fueled by strong winds and the city's wooden buildings, the blaze destroyed 87 churches, around 13,000 homes, and many civic structures. Despite the massive destruction, the fire claimed surprisingly few lives, displacing about 70,000 of the city's 80,000 residents. The aftermath spurred a major reconstruction effort led by architects like Sir Christopher Wren, who designed the iconic new St. Paul’s Cathedral.
