Film critic Nick Duncalf reviews another 60sec Classic - Wes Anderson's brilliant second film, Rushmore. Max Fischer runs virtually every society and club in school, but is threatened with probation after underachieving academically. • Rushmore Review Transcript: • Here in the UK we never got Wes Anderson's debut film Bottle Rocket in cinemas, so when Rushmore arrived it felt like it was his first movie. It was full of energy and style and it just absolutely blew my socks off. It's the tale of the teenage Max Fischer, played by the prodigiously talented Jason Schwartzman, who has never and will never be better than in this role. Max Fischer is the captain of every school club and society but he's a bit lost after the death of his mother. He soon falls for a young teacher, played by Olivia Williams, who you might know best from The Sixth Sense, and he also strikes up a friendship with a local industrialist called Mr Bloom, played by Bill Murray, but when the two adults start dating that's when things start to get really complicated. It has that joyous style and that sad beauty that you expect from Wes Anderson films, it's packed with brilliant mixed-up characters, and it also provided the template really, for the Bill Murray sad character that he excels at to this day. It's really a fantastic Bill Murray performance, maybe his best, and it's a masterpiece from a wonderful director. • Rushmore trailer: • Criterion Trailer 65: Rushmore • Rushmore Official Cast: • Jason Schwartzman ...
