The sales of counterfeit and pirated software poses many risks to consumers, who think they are getting a good deal. It can be loaded with viruses and who knows what else. The sellers of counterfeit merchandise are NOT paying taxes on their sales of the bootleg merchandise and are part of a huge black market underground economy that is causing extreme harm to our economy. A study in 2007 showed that counterfeiting and piracy cost the LA County economy over 483 million dollars in lost tax revenue in the year 2005 alone!
