Our previous video showed the benefit of high visibility calf covers and high visibility clothing for improve bicycle day light cyclist visibility on a road bike but also show benifit for a mountain bike or trail bike. We were however, disappointed in the 50 lumen and 100 lumen bike lights we utilized. In this video we substituted the Bontrager Flare R tail light said to be one of the brightest and best bike tail lights available. Trek advertises 2 kg day or night visibility and balance optics for 270 degrees. We set the light to its brightest setting and it was also recommended to set it to flashing tail light for a better view of bike visibility by cars. • In our cycling research for daylight visibility, we found that at 2500 to 3000 feet (just under 1 km or over .5 miles) the presence of the light, calf sleeves and vest, all suggesting a cyclist. We noted the jacket to be present for over 3500 feet (1.0 km or .7 miles) but cars could not be sure it's a cyclist. We recommend for the best daylight visibility, the Bontrager Flare R rear bike light, highest setting and flashing added to the high visibility vest or clothing and calf covers as a safer way to for approaching cars view the bike rider. The Bontrager rear light indeed could be seen at a much wider angle then most rear lights. We recommend this combination for improved visibility for not only a road bike, but also a mountain bike, touring and commuting, and trail cycling. • One note, some fellow bicycle riders did not like being behind the bright flashing setting of the Flare R. A lower light setting will defeat the purpose of the light visibility.
