Unlike it's predecessor, Railroad Tycoon, Railroad Tycoon II was developed by PopTop Software and was first published by Gathering of Developers in 1998 for both the pc, and later for the Mac OS. In the game, players can play either a campaign or a single mission with the goal of completing various objectives within a certain amount of time (usually within 30 in game years). The also featured a relatively realistic stock market and economy, allowing players to invest in other railroads and to also do things like buying businesses in the game. In addition to this, the game also featured a sandbox mode and multiplayer, along with a map editor, giving the game a fair amount of flexibility. The game was popular enough to have an expansion made, called the Second Century, which focused on the railroading world post 1900. The game was later ported to both the Sony PlayStation and the Sega Dreamcast, both of which featured full 3D graphics, although these weren't quite as popular as the pc or Mac versions. Apparently the game also saw a Linux release, ported by Loki Software. Due to it's success, the game also saw a sequel, Railroad Tycoon 3, published in 2003, and featuring 3D graphics. The series still has a pretty dedicated fan base, and is even available on Steam. • Due to the sheer amount of music in the game, only a small selection of tracks are played in this video.
