n a very non judgey way, here is some bra “logic you may not have thought of. • πBras can restrict and lock down your upper body, breath, spine, and shoulders. This creates a trickle down affect into the pelvic floor. Always. • They can be like a cast for your ribs. Just simple physics can help you workout what that means for your abs, core, and pelvic floor. • π Breath, spine, shoulders and upper body play a crucial role in pelvic floor heal because of this trickle down effect. • π A key to pelvic health is managing pressure, load, movement, force so there is no trickle down effect and instead, there is integration / coordination and cooperation of the core / breathing / pelvic floor systems. • When the pelvic floor is able to do that, we have less issues. • A common pelvic floor issue is one where the pelvic floor is too tight. Hypertonic. People with hypertonic pelvic floor can struggle with orgasm. Difficulty to orgasm, pain post orgasm. • So tight bras, with tight bands, or ones that do not allow for movement are really simply not ideal because they DO affect our structure and a small change does have a trickle down into the breathing / core / pelvic floor. • You simply cannot separate one from the other. • I know it is not possible for many people to go bra-less. So there ARE bras which allow the body to be more dynamic. And there are a bunch of more ideal options. • Bras can also limit lymphatic drainage. Another reason to ensure the rib band is not too tight. • FYI - a good bra fitting should extend beyond “what is comfortable” to “what allows dynamic movement” because comfort for many people = restriction because that is what they are used to. • So please do your due diligence and question what someone means when they say the bra is “designed for comfort” because usually that means - designed to restrict - comfortably. • I did not make the rules. Just the messenger. Spare me the anger comments that I do not get it bc I am small breasted. • I am not telling you to ditch your bra if you need one - but to be astute in choosing one. • π Knowledge is power • #somatic #somaticmovement #pelvicfloorexercises #nervoussystem #postpartum
