Ford Flex 9 Year Ownership Overview

Here is an overview of my ownership of this Ford Flex over the last nine years. • Other twiddly bits about the flex--- • Both generations have a 4500lb tow rating with the tow package. However, adding a hitch afterwards keeps the tow rating at 2000lb. I don’t believe you can turn on trailer sway control. • Another rare option in the Flex is the mini refrigerator that sits between the 2nd row captain chairs. • • There are differences between the Ecoboost engines between the generations. I don’t believe the engines are swappable between the generations. • Gen 2 Flexs have inflatable rear seatbelts as an option. • They also have cooled front seats. • The street appearance package was a gen 2 option and it blacked out all the chrome with a black roof. Also had special blacked out wheels I do believe. • They also have push button start. • Gen 1 uses a dvd based navigation where gen 2 uses a Sd card. Thus, finding a used Sd card nav. update is much easier then buying the dvd update like I had to do. • The Ford Flex has an acoustic windshield. Carlite is the vendor. The Flex came from the factory with it installed. I’m not sure if there is an aftermarket option- hence why I still have my original windshield. • Speaking of that windshield- upon replacement you will need new A pillar trim pieces as well. • The D pillars trim piece will also crack at the upper part by the roof. • With electric steering there is the auto parallel park feature. I’ve never used it. • For those that are wondering- the Flex can cruise well north of 100mph. Though she gets a bit floaty up there. There have been a few folks who have put meth kits on the Flex. A few who also drag race the Flex.
