His Malaikottai is a heady commercial cocktail of potboiler ingredients with stunts, comedy and romance at the right mix. Vishal flexes his muscles, tickles the funny bone and shakes his legs for a couple of romantic songs.Loaded with racy elements, Malaikottai travels at a quick pace in the first half only to lose its steam in the latter part. Vishal shoulders the major burden delivering his best on screen. Action comes quite comfortably for this tall and dark hero. He has ventured to his unknown territory - comedy - but has managed to come clean.Priya Mani, after a stellar performance in Paruthi Veeran, comes up with a glamour show in the movie. Kannada actor Devaraj as the baddie has the menacing looks, while Ashish Vidyarathy and Urvashi provide laughter.Anbu (Vishal), after a brawl in his home town Pudukottai, goes to Tiruchi on conditional bail with a condition that he should appear at a police station in the town and sign everyday. And in the police station where he has to sign daily is manned by his Chittappa Kanthaswamy (Ashish Vidyarthi), a sub-inspector whose ex-lover Kamala (Urvashi) is the lady constable at the station. Anbu kindles the love life of his uncle. He comes across Malar (Priya Mani) and falls for her instantly. However, Malar stays away from Anbu.Sequence of events lead to a clash between a local dadha Ajay, whose brother Palani (Devaraj), controls the whole town with his goondas, and Anbu. The rest is all but a cat and mouse game between Anbu and the brothers. On revenge mode, the hero prevails over the baddies eventually. The climax Matrix style fight is eye-catchy. The stunts choreographed by Kanal Kannan deserve special mention. Mani Sharma's music is catchy specially the remix number Hey Atha Athoorama.Had the director sustained the momentum in the screenplay all through, the end product would have been more convincing. All said, Boopathy Pandian has tried to create a commercial magic on screen and is partially successful.
