Cat Uses Talking Buttons to Alert Owner of Serious Health Issue

TW: Cancer • Last week my partner‘s mom (Grandma) came over with her new kitten, Bandit, and of course Roscoe was very excited to see Grandma. We thought that he would be happy to have a new playmate as well, since he hasn’t had someone to play with since Rocky passed, and Hobbes still wants nothing to do with him. Though he seemed interested in the kitten, and maybe even a little amused, he didn’t play. • He told me to look at his litter box- “look litter”- and when I did it was empty except for one tiny number 2. I thought maybe he was just constipated. Roscoe then told us that he didn’t feel good- “potty ouch” over and over- which really worried me. I called the vet and made an appointment for the same day. • The vet was very concerned because the X-rays showed that his abdomen was full of fluid, so we rushed him to the hospital, where they drained the fluid and did an ultrasound. They found masses on his liver and pancreas and were able to do a biopsy. Roscoe was so skinny after all the fluid was drained- I had no idea that he was so frail. • The next day the hospital called to tell us that he has cancer, and we will need to see an oncologist to discuss options. • Right now I’m scared, and don’t really know how much time he has left. • I just want to see him get better and strong again. I miss his sense of humor and obsession with “cereal” and “treats”, which he’s mostly lost interest in since his dental surgery last December. • I’m still hurting from losing Rocky, and Roscoe really helped me get through the hardest days. I don’t know how I’ll get through this, but for now I want to make him as comfortable and happy as possible.
