Today we talk about orchid species and hybrids, compare them, explain what they are and better understand the role of both of them! • 🦋 More info below! 🦋 • Orchid species, also called botanical species, are those orchids which you can also find in nature as you see them in cultivation. This does not mean they are obtained from the wild, this happened a long time ago. They are all propagated by humans in cultivation. • Hybrids are crosses of species between them, with other hybrids and even with other compatible genera. They don't normally occur in nature, since most species crossed together are not even found in the same geographical location. • Species are usually more genetically stable, if we disregard the lack of 'natural selection' from cultivators. They are perfectly adapted to the locations they grow in naturally. Some species might have features we don't like, such as odor, or difficult growth habit. • Hybrids are more unstable and can surprise us with their appearance and behavior. Since they don't have a natural location, they are usually not really well adapted to any geographical location. Some orchids can come close and can do well in certain areas, but these instances are rather rare. Many hybrids have lost some features, such as fragrance, which can be a good thing, or a bad thing. • Both species and hybrids are actually wonderful and put a smile on people's faces everywhere. No need to put one down to elevate the other, it makes 0 difference ;) • #MissOrchidGirl #Orchids • Music: • Eveningland - Nimbus.mp3 • -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • 🌸 Want to send me something?
