One of the mainstays of the late winter and early spring garden is the Snowdrop - Galanthus nivalis. This member of the amaryllis family comes out as early in the spring or late winner as the sun will allow often popping into bloom when the temperature is above forty degrees for a couple of days in a row. Snowdrops are often the first sign of Spring in the garden. • It's a very small plant, it grows only three or four inches and is best used in larger drifts. We have a small patch that we can show you today, this lovely little spring bloomer has three lovely petals and then that beautiful green perianth in the middle. It will expand by multiplying the bulblets and will naturalized an area very nicely. • There are several species and they're all well acclimated to New England. It is a native of Eurasia and will survive very cold winters down to zone 4, even zone 3. Plant snowdrops in the fall in well drained soil in partial shade. • Snowdrop - Galanthus nivalis. • #snowdrops
