Dark Souls series is so good that it made a sub-genre in videogame industry. Soulslike games are taking over the market and many people talk about what inspirations Hidetaka Miyazaki had for Dark Souls and his other games. Although Berserk comes to mind as the first answer, today I want to talk about a PS2 game that had very similar experience to Soulslike games. • Shadow of Rome released in 2005 by Capcom, and is set in the time of Julius Caesar's assassination. You control a Gladiator named Agrippa and have to fight your way and reach to the top, to win the tournament.
