Welcome to Asian Festival 2021! This year’s show follows the theme of inclusiveness, where we prioritized the inclusion of multiple Asian regions- East, South, and Central Asia- in our performances to fully display the diversity of the world’s largest continent. Despite the separation and social distancing protocols of the pandemic, a common interest in showcasing Asian culture brought Midwood students together. From our alumni to our freshmen body, everyone was included in translating Asian art- both performing and visual. Through different aspects of Asian culture — from fashion to dance to vocals— we aimed to showcase it all. Amid the pandemic, hate crimes against Asians has increased exponentially with an outrageous number of random attacks being made on our fragile and vulnerable elders. This needs to stop. In a country that preaches “equality for all”, it is ironic and hypocritical that accepting and condoning racism and discrimination against Asians is so normalized.
