I was asked what the N word means when visiting Gads Hill school… • • Imagine tripping someone up, they land on their face and strike a pose saying “yeah, I meant to do that…” • • That’s the N word. • • It’s an obscene word. All uses of the word point to its obscenity. A word which is used by an embarrassing few to “reclaim” it, despite it never being ours. • • Instead, those who try to reclaim it look like the individual who has been tripped over and landed on their face, to strike a pose and say “yeah I meant to do that…” No-one believes you. • • And then used again by obscene individuals to proliferate their dark fiction of supremacy. • • As I said in the video, I will honour my ancestors over pop culture every time. • • The truth is that it is a label which was used whilst dehumanising, abusing, enslaving and terrorising a people for 500 years. • • It was then used by a small portion of the African American population who thought they were nothing more than the negativity associated with the word.
