Visiting Anzac Cove in Turkey was a deeply moving experience. As Australians, we hear about this monumental place all our lives, each year we commemorate those who fought and died there. The landing of allied troops at Gallipoli was the first major action in which Australians were involved in the First World War. The beach site at Anzac Cove represents a mixture of achievement and tragedy for all Australians. • Visiting Gallipoli as a family felt sacred; it was a humbling experience to walk where such brave young men, on both sides, gave their lives. As the day continued and the blazing heat beat down on us relentlessly, we became more and more overwhelmed with the depth of the suffering and sacrifices of our forebears.
