In this video, you will learn how to use the inductive teach button to program an LI series capacitive level switch from ifm. The LI series from ifm uses capacitive technology as the sensing principle, which measures the permittivity of a liquid, or its ability to hold an electrical charge. This technology uses a constant voltage supply to charge a capacitor plate, which then creates an electrical field. It uses the ground as a reference when measuring the capacitance between the sensing element and its surroundings. The underlying sensing principles allow this sensor to detect the difference between presence of a particular media and foam or residue to ignore the latter. It can be used to measure mineral oil, coolant emulsion, glycol solutions, or water-based media. This level sensor performs best at: • • Alarming at a high switch point for overflow protection • • Leakage monitoring in an overflow basin • • Alarming at a low level switch point to trigger a refill and/or to prevent a pump run dry situation • Common industrial applications include replacing float switches, monitoring coolant level and temperature for cutting machines, and monitoring performance of Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs.)
