Large international shoe companies, led by Nike, have in recent years developed fantastically innovative running shoes that scientific studies have shown have performance-enhancing effects. Since the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, running distances from 10,000 meters to marathons have been completely dominated by runners with such shoes. In the autumn of 2019, Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon distance in less than two hours - an achievement that was not previously considered possible. He ran in Nike Vaporfly shoes. • The International Athletics Federation, World Athletics, now has a dilemma in that they believe that these shoes need to be regulated - but how should this be done? Is it cheating to run into them? What kind of shoes should then be allowed? And how should this be determined? • Toni Arndt is responsible for working with Word Athletics to develop a test protocol that will form the basis for such regulation. In this lecture, Performance enhancing shoes – are they cheating? , he talks about stylish shoes, fast running times, rule dilemmas and biomechanics. • Find more free lectures at out website: https://gih.se/SAMVERKAN/Oppna-forela... • Thumbnail photo: Ryno Quantz/Runners World • Föreläsningen är på engelska.
