Dinner for One or Der 90. Geburtstag has played on German TV every New Years Eve since 1972. It's a short skit about a drunken butler and a very old woman. • People outside of Germany are unaware of this film, but it is as common on New Years Eve in Germany as It's A Wonderful Life is in the United States at Christmas. • Here's a fun game to play, if you are ever in Germany. Try to find a German that doesn't speak English well* and say Same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie? . More often than not, they will be able to say Same procedure as every years, James, even if they don't understand what the words mean. • English is generally taught in High school, but most people are a bit rusty if they don't keep speaking the language. • UPDATE FROM Shniken of Reddit about Dinner for One playing in Australia: SBS is a government owned channel whose mission is to cater to immigrants. They show news in various different languages and have foreign movies on (typically with lots of tits).
