This is a great song by the wonderful pianist Fred Hersch. • This video has had an interesting history! • Over 10 years ago, before I started creating these videos, I often posted, on a midi newsgroup, some of the jazz piano midi files (including this one) that I had recorded. Some years later, I found on another website a CD for sale that contained this, and 4 other songs that I had midi-recorded and had also posted on the jazz midi newsgroup. This CD titled 'Inspirations' was (and still is) available for sale on iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/au/artist/pa..., Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Inspirations-..., Soundclick http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defau... and CdBaby http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/pc3ac The CD was claimed to be the work of another pianist - Patrick Curley and his group '3's a Crowd'. There is quite a bit of information about him on these websites - including interviews, pictures, testimonials (including one from McCoy Tyner)!. The CD is called 'INSPIRATIONS' - and contributing musicians are said to be : Patrick Curley, Piano all tracks. Guitar: Carmine D'Amico, Drums:Tony Messina, Bass: Roland Geeter. The full 'Inspirations' CD is also on Spotify - proudly announcing on the CD cover 'Featuring the piano artistry of Patrick Curley'! • This video was created from the original midi file, but the audio comes from the CD. As you can see, the notation from the midi file is exactly in sync with the audio that was passed off as the work of these musicians. Someone has overdubbed some (very bad) congas over my original midi drum track, but the bass track is exactly as originally recorded including all of the bends that I originally recorded! And the piano also has simply been recorded directly from the midi file, with no alteration. • There are other tracks on the CD that are direct audio copies of other midi files that I recorded and posted in the past including 'You've Changed', 'Spring Is Here', 'If Ever I would Leave You' and 'Turn out The Stars' • The other tracks on this 'INSPIRATIONS' CD (inluding 'Autumn Leaves', 'Night and Day', and 'My Funny Valentine' ) were taken from a now discontinued midi instructional jazz piano program for Windows called 'The Jazz Pianist' published by PG music. This guy certainly has a hide, as these were recorded by very well known pianists including Renee Rosnes, Miles Black and others. • Although imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I did find this just a little annoying. There is no point in following up this as I haven't been able to track this Patrick Curley down - I would have liked to at least let him know that his hoax was exposed.
