The Banana Wars were a series of US military interventions in Central America and the Caribbean in the early twentieth century. Through these interventions, the US maintained a tropical trade empire, and sought to maintain control of the Panama Canal. Many of the interventions were taken on behalf of American economic interests: an American-owned sugar plantation for example, or the interests of the United Fruit Company (among others). • The US also simply hung around, keeping soldiers in several central and South American countries in order to ensure good men were elected to government (spoilers: they weren't). • ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– • 🌟 EXCLUSIVE VIDEOS, EARLY ACCESS, and DISCOUNTS! / mrspherical • 👕 MERCH! ► https://www.mrspherical.store • 💬 DISCORD SERVER ► / discord • 📺 OTHER COOL CHANNELS...
